The three big emotions blocking AI adoption
It’s not really technology that’s the problem; it’s the psychology. (Dr. Gleb Tsipursky)
For Dr. Tsipursky, one of the biggest mistakes that leaders make when it comes to using AI in the workforce is that they don’t adopt it fully; they simply and blindly ask people to use it.
This is a bad way of adopting AI, because it doesn’t really address the underlying issues in AI adoption, which is not the technology itself. The technology itself is great … But there are three big underlying emotions that people experience around AI … that are not really addressed by the typical approaches to AI adoption. (Dr. Gleb Tsipursky)
Dr. Gleb lists these three big emotions, which are;
1 – Fear and anxiety
2 – Perceived identity threat
3 – Shame
You have AI tools that remain unused or seriously underused, especially in team processes and collaborations, things that you share with others. AI tools are greatly underused. (Dr. Gleb Tsipursky)
Diffusing the fear around AI eliminating jobs
AI will not replace therapist jobs. It can help to make practices run more efficiently.
Some AI experts like Dr. Gleb argue that some jobs may be more secure if they learn how to use and integrate AI effectively in their workflows.
The goal of AI initially was to create efficiency and help people complete their tasks at work. When it is used in this capacity, it can greatly aid the work you do in your practice, helping you be better at your job, rather than replacing you.
You can both improve the quality of your service provision as a therapist, and you can spend less time on admin paperwork, and more time doing what you are really there for, which is not paperwork … It is actually serving patients. (Dr. Gleb Tsipursky)
The projected future of AI jobs
Dr. Tsipursky predicts that future jobs may mostly be to manage AI agents, rather than doing the work oneself.
There will be developments in HIPAA compliance to allow practices to use AI.
People in the future will be managing AI tools; they won’t be doing the work themselves. There will still be work, but it’ll be much higher-level work of evaluation and editing, not initial writing and generation. (Dr. Gleb Tsipursky)
There will always be jobs for therapists.
Key takeaways for listeners
According to Dr. Gleb, AI adoption is not a technology issue; it’s a psychology issue. There is a lot of fear and shame around using AI, which is not considered when people want to implement AI.
If people want to use AI, it is essential to go in-depth into the emotions behind it.
