Shedding the old identities
Only 1.7% of women business owners ever hit seven figures or above, and that upset me, to be honest! The whole reason I started my podcast was because of that: I wanted to bring light to that subject as well. (Audrey Faust)
There are many reasons why only the tiniest fraction of women business owners surpass the six-figure mark in their businesses, but one of the most common reasons is due to identity and socialization.
So many young girls and women are taught to be selfless and praised when they are. They are given more social reinforcement to care for others than to work on their personal projects or goals.
The beliefs that women were given from the time that they were young, we are given these identities as a child … That come from our family or origin … and it’s because our subconscious is wide open then … To receive all these messages, learn, and interpret everything around us. (Audrey Faust)
To be quiet, unseen, unheard, selfless; these are traits that have up until very recently been actively encouraged in young women. Only now, in the last few decades, are women really stepping out of that identity and shedding outdated perspectives.
Women have only been able to own a credit card since 1974! Which is insane, and they have only been able to get a business loan since 1980. That’s not that long ago. We are struggling against a culture, on top of these beliefs that were put in our subconscious minds about who we should or shouldn’t be. (Audrey Faust)
Uncovering hidden money blocks and stories
Your subconscious, along with other important features, mainly has two jobs:
- To automate things
- To keep you safe
The thoughts that come from your subconscious, the deep seat of who you are, often stem from what was modelled to you when you were a child.
What is the very first word that comes to your mind when you answer this question: “Rich people are ___.” Which word do you use to fill in the blank?
That’s the mindset that’s in your subconscious. So think about it this way … You have this programming running around in the back of your mind, running 80000 per day, 95% of the time, and meanwhile you’re trying to build a practice … So you have one foot on the gas and one foot on the brake. (Audrey Faust)
Here’s the key: your subconscious programming can insidiously come up when you are trying to make or take certain decisions, making you unintentionally self-sabotage your dreams.
You have to address your subconscious beliefs and programming. Then, you can change them at that root level to increase your chances of real success by creating new evidence to reprogram your subconscious.
Once you’re aware of [these money stories], once you start programming your subconscious to find evidence of the opposite, then you can start rewriring these stories and then that’s when we move into the other work of understanding the financial information of your business … Then it opens up whole, new, amazing possibilities for you. (Audrey Faust)
Key takeaway for listeners
1 – Don’t be afraid of the numbers in your business. Come to them with curiosity rather than judgement or shame.
2 – Hire a tax consultant, a bookkeeper, and a CFO to help you understand the role of money in your business and how to update your mindset to help support profits.
3 – If you aren’t proactive to look at your finances, you are making it much harder to grow the business!
