Week 14 update

It’s now heading into week 14 of Joe building Great Lakes Online Counseling in batches of only two hours of work.

Joe has posted the job description and his email for clinicians to sign up at Great Lakes Online Counseling on Facebook and LinkedIn, and he’s considering Indeed as well.

I was sick of going through LinkedIn job postings and applicants, as you know, I got about 20 applicants through it, and all of them fell through for one reason or another … So when I get back from my vacation, I’ll probably post on Indeed and see if that works. (Joe Sanok)

Then, he thought through the interview process to make sure that he’s clear on affirming clinicians and creating a working environment that is welcoming, loving, and accepting, and that those values are reflected in the very first meeting with a potential hire.

Integrating Google Workspace

Joe has been working with his Ubuntu Freelancer staff to set up the practice’s Google Workspace account.

Particularly, they’ve been brainstorming customization and removing the standard Google voice.

Everything is set to go with regards to getting Google Workspace all set up, getting emails and phones all good to go! (Joe Sanok)

Conducting more interviews

Recently, Joe received an application for a potential employee that looked very promising.

Today I did the interview with them. I decided that, because I had some interviews that … went great but they didn’t reply, I decided that in [the interview] I would disclose this whole project so that they didn’t accidentally find that I am doing this as a project. (Joe Sanok)

Since previous interviewees didn’t get back to Joe about the job, he decided to be more up front with them about the Great Lakes Online Counseling project during the interviews, so that they have more information about the practice to help them decide.

For the rest of the interview, Joe discussed:

  • The employees highlights of their counseling career
  • Ideal clients that they would like to serve
  • Questions around leadership and if they would be open to supervise or just work as a clinician

I’m trying to speed it up while also doing my due diligence. So I also then text the applicant and say, “Hey, I reached out to your references. Feel free to ping them”, just to speed things up. (Joe Sanok)

Joe’s being intentional about what he wants this business to be, and the people he wants to hire to bring this project to fruition.

Navigating the reality of group practice is something that so many practitioners can resonate with, and projects like these can help to show people that everyone hits speed bumps along the way.
