How Jen got started with Ubuntu Freelancers

Joe has been working with Ubuntu Freelancers, a company based in South Africa, to find a great virtual assistant to help him grow and develop Great Lakes Online Counseling. That is how he and Jen came to be introduced.

Jen herself started working with Ubuntu Freelancers during university while she was studying Industrial and Organizational Psychology, when the COVID pandemic hit globally.

I was doing my Honors year [at university], and unfortunately, COVID hit. I had so much free time on my hands, and that’s when I got involved with Ubuntu Freelancers. (Jen)

Since then, her workload has been steady as the world continued to adapt to remote staffing, and she’s enjoying it.

Setting up Headway for the practice

Jen’s been researching the implementation of Headway at Great Lakes Online Counseling and learning how she can support the process as the virtual assistant.

Once we’ve got therapists onboarded and we’ve got the admin account going, then I’ll be able to get more into the software, in terms of how to get clients onboarded, how to put their insurance information in, what happens if there’s a glitch … Those little things that we need to wait to see once we get onto the actual platform, then I can play around and see how things work. (Jen)

As Joe also discovered, if you want to open an account with Headway and you are the owner-operator, but not seeing clients as he does, then you would need to onboard your first clinician before you can open the account with Headway to get started.

Organizing the system for teamwork

Joe and Jen’s current plan is to:

  • Update the website with new information and contact points
  • Launch social media posts for Great Lakes Online Counseling
  • Share Joe’s media profiles, like LinkedIn and email pages, with Jen

Because we are across the Great Lakes, we’re focusing on Michigan initially, we really can do a lot of regional things [for marketing], like, “What are your favorite hikes?” … Where it’s like, “Mental health is more than just coming to counseling” … and to have fun with it! (Joe Sanok)

Their goal is to start connecting with the community and introduce more fun and engaging content, interacting with audiences to help foster a new relationship with Great Lakes Online Counseling.
