What happened last week
Last week, Joe shared his updates on how he was thinking through reference checks, the hiring paperwork, and offer letters for when it came to hiring a clinician for Great Lakes Online Counseling.
However, just after Joe had gotten everything in order, he learned that the potential candidate had withdrawn their application.
I thought we were in the home stretch of this, but we’re going to walk through kind of where I’m at with things now as well! (Joe Sanok)
The emotional ups and downs of launching a practice
Even though Joe started, built, and sold his first private practice, and has been coaching other people for a long time, it’s been a while since he’s built a practice himself.
Therefore, this entire process has been incredibly insightful for him, both as a therapist and as a coach and consultant.
It’s like, as you’re making your first hire, especially if you haven’t been doing a solo practice … I’m finding the [balance] of, “How much do I work with Todd from Session Sites to optimize the website to get people coming in, to get them scheduled, when I don’t yet have someone?” (Joe Sanok)
Right now, it’s Joe’s goal to have a clinician seeing clients within Great Lakes Online Counseling within two to four weeks.
Once they’re in, onboarded, and ready, then Joe’s going to push harder on getting the website and digital traffic up to bring more clients to the practice’s virtual door.
Trying something new
Now that the usual routes have left Joe a little stuck, he’s trying something new when it comes to hiring a clinician.
Joe posted an image of the logo with a description of the job on both LinkedIn and Facebook, which included words like:
- Flexible
- Therapist
- Side-gig
- Opportunity
- Michigan
We’ll see! It’s really interesting. I was super optimistic in the beginning, and doing this publicly, I’ve gotta day, I’m finding that the two hours a week … It’s interesting to say, “I’m only going to work on this for two hours a week, and I need to let it ride” whereas if I was desperate, say I needed to get this thing off the ground, it feels like I could’ve done it a lot faster. It’s just an interesting experiment for me to do! (Joe Sanok)
