Brandon’s process for delegating tasks
When a task or duty comes along that Brandon needs to delegate, he puts it into one of four categories:
1 – Website
2 – Marketing
3 – Admin
4 – Clinical
It’s really all about deciding which thing you want to do and which ones you don’t want to do. (Brandon Shurn)
The benefits of outsourcing
When you delegate a task, you need to consider two things:
- Is it something you like or want to be doing?
- Is it something that can be done better by someone who’s an expert?
Things work well when tasks are given to those who are the best-equipped at managing them.
Of course, keep doing the tasks that you enjoy, but if the opportunity comes up to delegate a task to someone who’s better equipped to do it, then you should let them – and trust them!
I know that if I outsource [a task], delegate it, then I need to be in a place where I’m ready to spend, or able to spend … depending on the cashflow. (Brandon Shurn)
When your practice reaches a good income that allows you to afford hiring someone at an hourly rate, hire them. Start delegating tasks to that new hire, get them off your plate, enabling you to continue seeing clients, as that brings in the most income.
It’s time to take off some hats
You may likely become the bottleneck in your practice’s growth if you do not end up delegating tasks as your business takes on more clients and becomes successful.
In a way, delegation is one of the essential steps to building a profitable and successful private practice. And beyond that, you’ll avoid burnout.
As business owners, we get so caught up in the minutia and actually doing the thing that we … pay less attention to when it’s time to start taking these hats off. And, if we can delegate relentlessly the things that we really don’t want [to do] and keep the things that we really do want [to do] … your energy will begin to restore itself. (Brandon Shurn)
