Is your website more like a brochure rather than a client conversion tool? Could a few simple changes dramatically increase the number of people booking appointments? Are your website pages making it easy for both clients and Google to understand exactly what you offer?
In this podcast episode, Joe Sanok discusses how to convert more clients through your website with Shayah Reed.

Diving into the “About” page
The “About” page is often an area where practitioners are always just talking about themselves, and we like to have our clients switch from “About Me” or “About Us” to “How We Help.” So it’s more about [the client]. (Shayah Reed)
One of Shayah’s classic website switch-ups that she often recommends is for practitioners and therapists to change out their “About Me” to be “How We Help.”
In this way, you can still share more about who your staff is and about your practice, but funnel it into how all of these great people and service offerings combine into assisting the client viewing the webpage.
You’re making it outcome-based; you’re talking about the client, that you understand what their struggles are … So you’re still relating to them and … talking about yourself, but you’re making it more client-focused. (Shayah Reed)
Lean more into root-cause problems
To expand on the significance of your website copy, it is important to continue to lean into root causes, rather than the symptoms.
We see often a lot of therapists using jargon that they have learned in school and know in practice … But the main thing people are still searching for … is root-cause problems. (Shayah Reed)
Keep your website copy focused on your client needs, root issues, and the outcomes that you can help them achieve.
An issue to solve with your booking
The goal is essential: have an online booking system, or another seamless booking process for clients to schedule a session with you.
A common misconception with implementing an online booking session on your website is that you lose control of your schedule, but this is not true!
You can still set your availability for your online booking system, allowing clients to directly book a session with you without it interfering with your other responsibilities.
[Implementing an online booking system] is one of the easiest ways to increase conversions through your website. (Shayah Reed)
Consider booking platforms such as:
- Headway
- Therapy Notes (Use the promo code JOE at checkout to get some trial months!)
- Jane App
- Simple Practice
You could even create a booking page on your website that is dedicated to helping clients book a session with you. It can include direct booking, filling out a form, and calling during office hours.
In this way, you cater to client preferences while offering them multiple ways to confirm a session with you.
Split up your service pages
It is very common for private practices to offer a host of services, whether it is difficult therapy modalities, different ideal clients, or even medical checks.
Whatever the array of your services is, split them up, rather than having them all on one page.
When you divide them up, you make it easier for Google and any AI tools to link client searches with exactly what you offer.
This is really confusing, both for Google and AI, when someone is searching something on Google, for example, and Google’s trying to figure out if it can match one of the pages on your website with their search. If you have all of your services on one page, Google’s going to say, “Hmm, I think there’s too much information on here that doesn’t align, so I’m not going to show your page as a result.” (Shayah Reed)
So, when you have all of your services and specialties on individual pages, it boosts your SEO enormously.
Shayah’s advice to private practitioners
Your website is often people’s first impression of your practice!
