You all know me, I’m Joe Sanok, the guy that runs Practice of the Practice. I also know a bunch of you. But you don’t know one another.

After three years of blogging, podcasting, and growing this community, I wanted to introduce you to some of you.

Everyday, I get emails from people talking about amazing steps they are taking based on what they have discovered through Practice of the Practice. I invited a number of people to tell us about their private practice journey.

Today I want to introduce you to Michelle Farris, MA, LMFT.  I met her at The Most Awesome Conference and she’s making huge strides to grow her income and influence!

Name: Michelle Farris, M.A., LMFT and owner of Counseling Recovery

michelle private practice ownerWhat’s something you learned from Practice of the Practice?

I learned that to be authentic is the greatest thing I can share. Joe is the master at that and I love all of his real life examples!

What is your therapeutic specialty?

I love working with anger management, relationship issues like codependency, and couples work. Addiction recovery is my true specialty since I absolutely LOVE the process! Giving people hope that there is an AWESOME life after addiction energizes me! Also, giving hope to people struggling with anger lifts my spirit because I love seeing them learn the skills to control their reactions and increase self-care. It’s so exciting to see the positive changes!

What is an action you took to grow your private practice?

Got involved in Kelly and Miranda’s Bootcamp community which helped a lot!

Complete this sentence: When I first started a private practice, I…

…was scared to embrace the empowerment of being a private practice owner.

How have you grown your income and influence?

My income has doubled after the first year and continues to grow. Miranda Palmer and Kelly Higdon have been great inspirations! They taught me the value I bring as a therapist which was incredibly helpful!

Thanks to wonderful coaches I’ve worked with and their willingness to share their experience, I’ve created a successful full fee practice. I’ve had to be willing to learn about social media and ways technology can help me grow my practice. Now, I find it’s actually fun!

What’s next for you?

I’m exploring how to write an online course and what that entails. From taking Bootcamp, I loved the private Facebook group and want to duplicate that support in my ow online community.
I love the connection they provide and think it would be very fulfilling to create something like this for those who may not ever seek therapy but would be open to learning in the privacy of their own home.

What is one specific podcast or article that helped you grow quickly?

Gosh! That’s hard to say only one! The webinars from ZynnyMe were very helpful -especially the one on creating a niche! That gave me permission to really focus on who I wanted to reach

If every counselor in the world was reading this, what would you want them to know?

Get connected to a support community of amazing therapists like Joe Sanok, Miranda Palmer, Dr. Julie Hanks, Jo Muirhead and Kelly Hidgon. You will be so glad you did!

What are 2-3 resources you love? How do you use them to grow your practice?

The Bootcamp and KAT FB group for coaching. I also seek out consultation about private practice building, social media and related topics.
