Do you want to expand your private pay caseload? Check out Thrizer! Thrizer helps clients better navigate their out-of-network benefits and takes the entire burden of insurance off of them.

That means, no more superbills, no more insurance calls, and the best part, no more long reimbursement waits.

Chances are you are providing a superbill to your clients. Superbills can be extremely overwhelming and challenging for your clients to navigate. Let alone needing to wait months for that reimbursement check.

Thrizer provides automatic claim submissions, manages claims end-to-end, and the best part, allows clients to just pay a copay for your sessions, while Thrizer covers the rest of your rate upfront and waits for reimbursement on your clients’ behalf

This is called Thrizer Pay and is already helping thousands of clients access therapy without needing to be out hundreds of dollars while waiting for reimbursement. It’s the best way to make your services more accessible and increase your private pay caseload, hands down.

Prepping conference talks

Dr. Resnik will be one of the speakers at the upcoming Group Practice Boss Conference in May 2026 and has been working on her talk.

The [preparation] is the really fun part for me, because it allows me to have a great excuse to start reading, researching, and thinking … It’s so invigorating! (Dr. Rebecca Resnik)

While Rebecca is still figuring out what her talk will be more formally about, the bones of the presentation will be based on how to make a profit from an insurance-based practice, and building a practice that you are aligned with.

I really want to see people have the business knowledge, skills, and sometimes motivation and inspiration to create a business that can really make them happy. I mean, we’re mental health people, we do a lot of good – it’s okay to want to be financially secure and not worried about your bills all the time. We can do good by doing good. (Dr. Rebecca Resnik)

For Rebecca, the goal of her talk is to have therapists understand that being financially successful is beneficial not only for them but also for their community.

When they do well financially, then they are in a position to do more good for the overall community and the people that they serve.

Lessons learned from the past

Dr. Resnik has experience watching her parents run a family business together.

As a teenager, she often worked a little in their office on weekends or after school, and it was throughout these years that she learned how businesses fluctuate with the economy. She also learned how to balance taking insurance and cashpay, and how to build a profitable business that is not at risk of being dictated to by an insurance company.

That whole idea of not being chained to the policies of an insurance company … because let’s face it: insurance companies are about increasing their profits for shareholders. They like to tell us that they’re there for us when bad times happen, but one of the biggest reasons people go bankrupt in this country is that they can’t pay their medical bills. So, let’s think about alternatives to being part of a system that does not care about us. (Dr. Rebecca Resnik)

The toughest part of being cash-pay

The bottom line is that, when you are a cash-pay practice, you will have to hustle. Insurance companies can provide you with volume, but your income percentage is low.

However, when you go cash-pay, you can earn much more, but you are the one who needs to bring the clients in through the door.

Although this is not a dead end. With sufficient and consistent planning, creative work, and being in alignment with your values and principles, you can build a business that is both profitable and enjoyable to run!

Dr. Resnik’s advice to private practitioners

Question the idea that being in mental healthcare means being underpaid. You can and should charge what you are worth, and remember that when you are well taken care of, the better you can take care of others.

This idea that it’s unseemly to think about business, it’s unseemly to think about money, and that we should be self-sacrificing – that’s not sustainable, because you can’t keep doing that. If you’re going to really be your best self and offer the best clinical care, you can’t do that if you’re constantly stressed and feeling like you’re on the verge of burnout. (Dr. Rebecca Resnik)
