  • Key takeaway for listeners

Clinical versus clerical

Tim starts by explaining the necessity of separating the clinical from the clerical.

The doctor should focus their attention and skills on working with the client or patient, and the admin team should follow up on organizational details.

This essentially keeps the client’s needs at the forefront of care, allowing the clinician to focus on the client while the admin takes care of the rest.

All the clinical tasks, including the patient care, building the patient care plans … and then the treatments, that’s the stuff that the doctor should be spending their time on. It’s what they went to school for, what they did this studying [for] … they’re serving. (Tim Boyle)

Apart from the clinical side, the clerical aspects include managing the EHR, handling payroll, client bills, and insurance: this can be done by another faction of the team who are trained and capable.

We try to take all the clerical tasks off the doctor’s plate through our medical virtual professionals, just so that they can put that time back into their practice and increase their patient care. (Tim Boyle)

What’s better: hiring an in-person or virtual assistant?

When you have decided to hire an assistant, but you are stuck between choosing an assistant who is either in-person or virtual, Tim wants you to consider:

  • Cost-effectiveness: Which one would be more affordable for you, depending on your current phase of practice?
  • Answer the question: “What is the biggest current bottleneck to growth in your practice?”

If you can answer this question, the answer will guide you to know in which form to hire your new assistant.

In-person and virtual assistants can offer you different solutions, so tailor your choice to what you need help with the most.

Each virtual assistant in Tim’s company team is specifically trained to work exclusively for each client.

That one person is going to be vetted out and trained in that specific client’s EMR/ EHR, and that MVP is now Brandon’s MVP, and you can use them solely for you; they won’t be working with another practice. (Tim Boyle)

Key takeaway for listeners

If you are a clinician with a practice, big or small, and you are struggling with bottlenecks or burnout, reach out.

You can get expert help for less than you think, and it will support you in taking your practice to the next level.
