Don’t underestimate the visuals
Numerous studies have proved that people make the infamous snap-decision about a person or a business within the first three seconds based almost entirely on its visual presentation.
So, do not underestimate the power of uploading a good photo of yourself online and branding your business well.

Don’t make the business about you
You may place all your credentials online to prove your levels of experience, education, and scope of practice.
However, even though those credentials are important, people will decide to work with you based on how closely they feel that they can relate to you.

Give clients your value proposition. Before you dive into who you are, show them that you see them, understand them, and can help them. That is going to attract your ideal clients to your business.
Pay attention to your displays
Set up your website professionally and put your best foot forward, but also don’t neglect to optimize your website for mobile displays.
Not every website generates correctly [on] mobile … [and remember] that more than half of website traffic is on mobile [phones].Nicole Krug
If a potential client has a poor mobile experience with your website, they are more likely to choose not to work with you.
Testimonials are the gold standard
It can be difficult to get testimonials on a website if you are a therapist. They can be anonymous.
A testimonial is an important trust factor. Consider including other trust factors like:
- your certifications
- the insurance that you take
- your connections to local businesses
These are different things that people can connect with to say, “Hey, I want to work with you”. Often, small business owners underestimate the value of seeing those different connections.Nicole Krug
The boring but important stuff
- Website pages that lead to error messages or blank pages
- Photos not loading
- Redirect your links if you change them
- Have someone on your web team audit your website regularly
Nicole’s advice to private practitioners
What you put online is important because that will inform the judgment that people are going to make about you and your business.
