The benefits of digital marketing
Putting yourself in a directory and creating a profile is one of the many forms of digital marketing. It is a great strategy that you can use to get your name out there, both professionally within your mental health community for referrals, and locally for clients who are seeking a new therapist.
Digital marketing techniques allow us to tap into new [pools of] clients, especially those who really need access, and it’s an opportunity to outsource something that takes away time from our self-care and time with clients. (Martamaria Hamilton)
Establish your digital marketing goals
It’s old school, but it works; journal! Get journaling by putting pen-to-paper to figure out your client:
- Where are they at in life?
- What are they struggling with?
- How can you connect with them via online channels?
- Where do they get their news and information from?
It’s really neat [and helpful] to hone in on where your ideal client would be. And, think about who has access to your ideal client? (Martamaria Hamilton)
For in-person marketing, think about who your ideal client is working with. Which doctors, schools, shops, or locations? Consider the ways that you can strategically collaborate with other service providers that are in contact with your ideal client and that have the power to direct your client to referral sources. So, connect with those people, and become a referral source! Another big marketing goal that you need to establish for yourself for success is to know what you are trying to increase.
It’s really important to look at what you are trying to do because each strategy will [differ] depending on each goal. (Martamaria Hamilton)
How to create a successful directory profile
Getting onto a directory is great because not only do you get your name into the public, but you also benefit from SEO and Google Ads that are already paid since the directory company pays for it! You stand to gain from their hard work and investment.
The directories are spending money on Google Ads and Facebook Ads. It’s one way to offset potential [or] additional marketing costs. (Martamaria Hamilton)
When you make your profile, there are some things that you can do to stand out. This can feel different – and sometimes difficult – as a therapist! But it is important for your success, so try Martamaria’s three tips: 1 – A stand-out profile picture with smiling eyes! 2 – A great personal statement, discussing the client’s pain points to show that you know where they are coming from and what they need help with. Avoid therapy-speak where possible! 3 – Share what you can offer! Share with your clients what you can offer them through their work with you, and end your script with a clear call to action. Be informed: it can take up to six months for your profile to rank higher! So start now, because it will take some time.
