The starting systems of a new practice

I wanted to first have a strong business foundation, and I also wanted to make sure that I was not doing everything in my practice. (Soribel Martinez)

From the get-go of her business, Soribel organized a

  • CPA
  • Billing department
  • Admin assistant
  • Hiring system to begin hiring clinicians right away

Once Soribel noticed that her private practice was growing, she knew that she needed to structure the systems in a better way. Without a mentor, she experimented with creating her own framework which she used to grow her private practice to where it is today.

Building up a leadership team within the business

Soribel knew that she didn’t want to be isolated within the private practice world. She wanted support, for herself and for her clinicians, and so built up an inner leadership team soon after the business began building traction. This leadership mindset began with Soribel herself.

How was I working on my mindset to make sure that I was being the best leader for them, and really empowering them as independent contractors to do the same. For me, it’s about providing that [financial] security … that [administrative support] … so that they can do their best work going forward. (Soribel Martinez)

The main umbrella leadership needs to consistent from:

  • Administration
  • Finances
  • Marketing

Soribel’s advice for getting to seven figures

You are the CEO. At some point, if you want to, consider hiring a director to assist you in running the business. Additionally, consider a marketing team that can handle this project each month so that you can advise and approve instead of having to implement and execute yourself.

Lay out the supportive structure within your business so that you get support and so does everyone else, and that each department can work alongside and lean on one another instead of you managing everything alone.

Something that I do well that helps me a lot with those things is planning, goal-setting, and always reviewing my goal-settings and how I’m doing financially, in marketing, in all of those areas … Annually, quarterly, monthly, and every single week I’m looking at the pieces of the business to make sure it’s running smoothly. (Soribel Martinez)

Curate your mindset

Learn to develop a growth mindset and see challenges or “failures” merely as data on how to do better or what to do differently the next time you try something. You will have to make tough decisions, so curate your mindset so that you can stay calm and collected while facing the challenges of uncertainty in pursuit of your goals.

Soribel’s advice to private practitioners

It is possible! With the right skills, tools, strategies, and a desire to do the work, you can be a very successful business owner.
