LaToya’s next steps

In this season, I’m going to spend more time diving back into the practice and the creative things I like to do … And so flowing more on creativity with the practice. (LaToya Smith)

On her journey going forward, LaToya wants to get back into business with a hands-on creative approach for her private practice. This could mean launching another location, starting new projects, and seeing where things go. LaToya has lots of ideas of things that she wants to get back into again, and things to try anew.

This is also special because now I feel like I’ve matured so much in business, I’ve matured so much in my adult professional life … that now it’s more planned out and thought [out]. Now I see the vision … instead of being nervous about what’s next, now I’m excited about this creativity. (LaToya Smith)

In this season of her life, LaToya feels ready to try new things. She’s been able to process, sit, and consider her options, and validate her desires, and now she’s going to go ahead with her dreams.

What personal leveling up looks like

LaToya explains that when she was younger, she was chasing success just to be successful. She was chasing progress just because that’s what everyone else does. Now, with the experience that she has, LaToya shares that she wants to approach life with intention – and to determine what success looks like for herself.

For me, it’s knowing that I tried something. Like, I want to put it out there … I’m finding more of my authentic voice itself, and to me, that’s a level up. (LaToya Smith)

LaToya’s tips for new group practice owners

1 – Write down the vision, mission, and values: have these written down so that everyone knows what they are, and sees them in the office space. They have to be lived out in your actions, but having the words visible means that you’ve taken the time to think about how to phrase your intention, and that’s important. Can you explain to yourself – and others – why it is that you do what you do? That’s your mission. 2 – Don’t compare yourself: do not compare yourself or your practice to others.

Wherever little bits of your practice stand out, expand on [them] because that’s what’s going to make you amazing. There’s a little thing that you do and the other nine don’t do, that’s where you show out in that area. (LaToya Smith)

3 – Find your authentic voice: knowing what your mission is will be part of your authentic voice, but you need to develop showing up in a way that resonates with who you are and the core of your business so that you are aligned in authenticity on all fronts.

Revolutionizing mental health

Community partnerships are the key to leveling up mental health in general.

Being intentional about being outside the four walls of the office says a lot. Like, show up in spaces because a lot of people wouldn’t come into the office more if we weren’t in these spaces. (LaToya Smith)

When therapists, clinicians, counselors, psychologists, psychotherapists, and others all work together and support one another, they are better able to support their clients, and that is when so much positive change can be made in communities.
